The story

What the customer called about

A clogged main sewer line, and not the first one.

What we found

We cleared the line with a machine and ran a camera through it. The line had multiple bellies (low spots where waste settles) and roots growing into it.

What we couldn't know until we opened it up

What was causing the constant clogs. Once we dug it up, we found couplings that hadn't been installed properly, which is where the roots got in, and poor backfill under the pipe, which caused the bellies.

The options we gave them

We cleared the line that day and offered to credit the cost of the clearing back if they went ahead with a replacement. We didn't recommend a spot repair, because the problems were in too many places.

What they chose, and why

Replace the entire line.

Before, during and after

Photos from the job itself

Repeated main-line clogs at this 2002 Fuquay-Varina home came from a sewer line with several sags and roots growing in. We replaced the whole line from the house to the street cleanout and added a new cleanout by the house.

The work

  • Cleared and camera-inspected the line
  • Removed the old sewer line
  • Installed a new sewer line from the house to the cleanout at the street
  • Added a new cleanout by the house
  • Buried the line and spread straw so the grass grows back
