The story
What the customer called about
Sewage overflowing from the cleanout at the street.
What we found
The cleanout at the street had blown its cap off and was overflowing.
What we couldn't know until we opened it up
What was causing the blockage. Our camera inspection showed the tee at the bottom of the cleanout riser was broken. Once we dug it up, the riser turned out to be broken further down too.
The options we gave them
Clear the line, or dig up and replace the broken section. Clearing alone would likely have meant another backup.
What they chose, and why
Replacement. A broken tee keeps catching waste, so clearing it would only have bought time.
Before, during and after
Photos from the job itself
The sewer cleanout at the street was overflowing hard enough to blow its cap off. Our camera found a broken tee at the cleanout, so we dug it up and replaced the damaged section instead of just clearing it.

The work
- Camera-inspected the line to find the break
- Excavated the broken section
- Replaced the tee and cleanout riser, a longer section than planned since the pipe was broken further down
- Backfilled the excavation
